Albert Guinovart
Piano
Composer and piano soloist
Born in Barcelona, Albert Guinovart is one of the most outstanding Catalan composers and pianists of recent decades. He is considered a follower of the early 20th-century Catalan cultural renaissance, and his music reflects a fusion of European tradition, popular roots and his own very distinct voice.
His career has been productive and versatile, with an output spanning virtually every genre: opera (Atzar, Alba Eterna), ballet (Terra Baixa), musicals (Mar i Cel, Flor de Nit, Scaramouche, Gaudí, La Vampira del Raval), symphonic music, chamber music and a significant body of piano work.
Many of his shows have won awards such as the Max and Butaca Awards, and continue to be a huge part of musical culture in Catalonia. His religious orchestral works (El lament de la terra, El somni de Gaudí, Réquiem, Gloria) are known for being powerfully expressive and for their refined orchestration.
As a performer, he has given recitals all over the world, often combining classical repertoire with his own works. He has collaborated with figures such as Victoria de los Ángeles and has performed with leading international orchestras. In 2023, he made a successful debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall with a recital in tribute to Alicia de Larrocha, where he debuted his Nocturn a Alicia.
He has also recorded a lot of his work, with more than 60 recordings released by labels such as Sony Classical, EMI and DECCA. He has composed film scores (El llarg hivern), TV soundtracks (Nissaga de poder, El cor de la ciutat) and music for sporting events such as the World Swimming Championships in Barcelona.
