He started learning piano at the age of 5. He graduated with honours in piano, orchestral conducting and choral conducting from the Staatliche Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik in Stuttgart with Wan Ing Ong, and specialised in piano with Rudolf Buchbinder and Karl-Heinz K\u00e4mmerling at the Musik-Akademie in Basel and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.  <\/p>\n<p>He has done recordings for international radio and television, and has released several CDs with works by Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Ravel, Schubert, Schumann, Scriabin and Stravinsky on the Realsound label.<\/p>\n<p>He has won several international competitions, including the ARD Prize in Munich (1999) and the Beethoven Prize in Vienna (2001), being the first German pianist to receive the latter award, as well as the special award for the best performance of Beethoven\u2019s sonatas.<\/p>\n<p>Major awards for his rendition of Beethoven and Brahms have marked his career.
