Marta Mathéu trained with Ana Luisa Chova, Montserrat Caballé, Elena Obraztsova and Wolfram Rieger. Throughout her career, she has established herself as one of the leading lyric voices on the current scene, with a strong presence in opera, lied and oratorio.
As well as performing at concerts, she also teaches singing at the Conservatori del Liceu, a post she has held since 2014. Her success has seen her perform on major national and international stages, such as the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Philharmonie in Paris and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, among others. In opera, she has played demanding roles such as Norma (Liceu, 2022) and Liù in Turandot (Liceu, 2023).
In terms of symphonic music and oratorio, she has performed with esteemed conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Victor Pablo Pérez, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Antoni Ros Marbà, Neville Marriner and Fabio Biondi. Especially noteworthy is her close collaboration with Jordi Savall, with whom she has performed Bach’s works at iconic venues such as the Philharmonie in Paris and other European music halls. She has also shared the stage with prominent opera figures, the likes of which include Javier Camarena, Sondra Radvanovsky and Ludovic Tézier.
She received recognition in the Tenor Viñas Competition for her Mozart performances and has won prizes from Juventudes Musicales de España, as well as in international competitions, namely Manuel Ausensi and Montserrat Caballé, where she won the Audience Award.
As a performer of Spanish music, a major highlight of hers was the recording of Cançó d’amor i de guerra by Rafael Martínez Valls in the leading role of Francina, the first complete version since the one by Montserrat Caballé in 1974.
